Chočské Hills (Slovak plural; German also Chočgebirge ) is a mountain range in Slovakia.

Able boundary and subdivision

The mountain is located in the north of the country and part of the northern part of the Fatra - Tatra geomorphological area. It is located on the territories of the districts Dolny Kubin, Ružomberok and Liptovsky Mikulas and on the border of the historical regions Liptov and Orava.

The mountain range is limited

  • In the northwest of the mountain country Orava Highlands,
  • In the northeast of the valley floor Podtatranská Brázda,
  • In the East of the West Tatras ( Western Tatras )
  • In the south from the valley of Podtatranská kotlina ( with the subunit of Liptauer basin ),
  • In the southwest of the Great Fatra.

The Hills are Chočské geomorphological further divided into areas

  • Podchočská Brázda,
  • Sielnické Hills,
  • Prosečné,
  • Choc.

Character

This small mountain range is about 25 km long, divided 4 to 10 km wide and strong. It has no single main ridge. The mountain tops are rocky; the highest elevation is the Velky Choc ( 1611 m nm).

The crystalline rock core does not occur at the surface, which is formed by the sedimented Mesozoic rocks. Geologically, the mountain provides a transition area between the Little and Great Fatra one hand, and the Western Tatras other hand dar.

The type of rock has favored the emergence of numerous karst phenomena. One can find carts, sinkholes and caves, the most famous of the Liskovská Cave east of Ružomberok is.

The region is predominantly forested; form is dominated by coniferous forests (especially spruce ). At higher altitudes, larger areas are covered with mountain pine.

Tourism

The mountain offers a very varied landscape and is a very nice, not too overcrowded hiking area. In a small space to viewpoints, caves, waterfalls and canyon-like ravines find.
