Chocenice

Chocenice ( German Kotzenitz ) is a municipality with 519 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers south-west of Blovice and belongs to Okres Plzeň -jih. The land area is 1320 ha

Geography

The place is located in 413 m above sea level. M. in the valley of Chocenický creek at the western foot of the Chocenická skala ( 588 m). Chocenice is due to two ponds, the Mlýnský and the Vejsovský fishpond. Through the village the main road leads 20 from Pilsen to Nepomuk.

Neighboring towns are Kotousov in the north, Stara Hut in the northeast, Ždírec in the east, Zhur, Jarov, Mecholupy and Čabuzí in the south, as well as Bzi, Dubiny, Na Samote and Drahkov in the West.

History

The first mention of Chocenice comes from a list of the monastery Kladrub from the year 1115. Until the 16th century, the Sternberger had the place and in 1561 acquired Jiřík Kokořovec of Kokořova on Šťáhlavy the basic rule of Zdenko von Sternberg. Christoph Kokořovec made ​​1603-1615 a Renaissance fortress built. He lost his possessions as insurgents and was pardoned in 1623. 1650 sold his daughter Ludmila Eliska Molovcová of Kokorov Chocenice to Jan Václav Kočov who resold the property in 1685 to Mark Joseph Lenoy. Lenoy had rebuilt the fortress to the baroque castle.

The castle was later used as an administrative building, and finally as a school. It is now vacant and inaccessible.

The municipality includes the districts Chocenice Chocenická Lhota ( Kotzenitzer Lhota ), Kotousov ( Kotauschen ) and Zhur ( Sursch ) and the hamlet Landava and Hladoměř.
