Chock (wheel)

Chocks are stable wedges of metal, plastic or other suitable materials that parked vehicles are including trailer by blocking at least one wheel from rolling away. Arrangements for the execution of wedges among others in the DIN standards 76051-1 " chocks for motor vehicles and trailers " or 76051-2 " chocks for agricultural vehicles; functional dimensions " hit.

Provisions of the Road Traffic Law

Germany

The Road Traffic Licensing Regulations ( Road Traffic Licensing Regulations ) stipulates in § 41, paragraph 14 (as of October 19, 2012 ) proposes that the following motor vehicles and Änhänger must be equipped with at least one wheel chock:

  • Motor vehicles - other than caterpillars - with a gross vehicle weight of more than 4 t
  • Two-axle trailer ( excluding semi -, and center -axle ) with a gross vehicle weight of over 750 kg,

With at least two wheel chocks must be equipped according to the same rule:

  • Three - and multi-axle vehicles,
  • Semi-trailer,
  • Rigid drawbar and center with a gross vehicle weight of over 750 kg.

When not in use for the motor vehicle or trailer belonging chocks shall be installed in or on the vehicle easily accessible so with holders that they can not be lost or rattle. Therefore, hooks or chains must not be used as holders for wheel chocks.

Drivers are acc. Road Traffic Regulations, § 31b, committed, competent at the request of persons such as the police to be carried objects be presented and handed over to check the proper condition. This also includes wheel chocks.

The intentional or negligent commissioning of a motor vehicle (possibly with trailer) in violation of the above requirements for equipment with wheel chocks, its nature and provides attachment according to traffic regulations, § 69a, paragraph 3, No. 13, a traffic offense dar.

Austria

In Austria, the regulation reads aloud Motor Vehicles Act 1967 § 102/10:

" The driver has in motor vehicles with a maximum gross weight of more than 3500 kg except vehicles of category M1 and carry each other as light trailers per vehicle at least one chock. "

The wheel chock must be sufficiently stable and be adapted to the wheel size of the vehicle. Chocks for tractors are therefore quite large and can be folded for storage.

Chocks are a thing in the said vehicles to be carried on board equipment.
