Choi Kyu-hah

Choi Kyu- ha ( alternate spelling: Choi Kyu- hah) (* July 16, 1919 in Genshu, sub-province Kōgendō, Chosen province, a former Empire of Japan, South Korea today, † October 22, 2006 in Seoul, South Korea) was from 1976 to 1979 Prime Minister and 1979-1980 President of South Korea.

Choi studied during the Second World War in Japan English Language and Literature and Political Science. From 1946 he worked in the provisional government in South Korea. The main part of his career (1951 to 1971) he was in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( Foreign Minister from 1967 to 1971 ) and worked in the diplomatic service, including in Japan and as Ambassador to Malaysia. In 1975, he was initially provisional, since 1976 officially the 12th Prime Minister of South Korea. After the assassination of President Park Chung -hee in October 1979, he succeeded him on December 6, 1979 as 4th President of South Korea. Already on 12 December led Chun Doo -hwan, a military coup and called as army chief on 17 May 1980 the nationwide state of emergency. In August 1980, Choi resigned as president.
