Chokladboll

The Chokladboll (plural: chokladbollar; German: "Chocolate Ball" ), which in Swedish also havreboll ( " oat ball " ) or negro boll ( " negro ball " ) is called, is a small spherical specialty baked goods from Sweden. He is referred to as fraught with Kokosstreuseln coconut boll ( " coconut ball " ), but this term is also used in skumbollar ( " foam balls "). The term Negro boll is always used less frequently in written form (for example in recipe books or on menus ) since the beginning of the 21st century, which can be understood as a result of the discussion about the racist connotations of the word, similar to the discussion about the German terms Negerkuss and chocolate marshmallow.

Preparation

Chokladbollar are made of sugar, cooking fat, oatmeal, cocoa, vanilla sugar and occasionally heavy also from a few drops of coffee or rum. The ingredients are mixed well and formed into small balls of the dough then. The balls are then often rolled in coarse sugar or coconut, and then stored in a cool or consumed directly. Since many Swedes have these ingredients at home stock, include the chokladbollar to the widely used home-made baked goods in Sweden. Very similar preparations are known from the alternative movement energy balls and the Indian laddus.

Name and discussion

A pastry shop in Sjöbo, which offered the pastry as negro stronghold, was displayed in 2003 at the " Ombudsman against ethnic discrimination " by a private person. The ensuing investigation was terminated because the complainants was not personally offended. As a precaution, however, was arranged that the term negro company boll under penalty of a fine of 100,000 Swedish crowns could no longer be used because it could be outdated and easily connected with slavery, oppression and lack of respect for other people.

The term chokladboll appeared in the Dictionary of Svenska academies for the first time in the edition of 2006, together with negro stronghold. In the previous editions, only the term came before negro stronghold.
