Choma is a rural town with 46,000 inhabitants in the Southern Province in Zambia 300 km southwest of the capital Lusaka. It is located 1,424 meters above sea level and is the seat of the administrative district of the same name with 204 898 inhabitants ( 2000 census ).

Economy

Choma was a refuge for 25 displaced Zimbabwean agricultural economists, the long-term leased land in the surrounding area. They operate a highly mechanized cultivation of tobacco and corn and employ an average of 120 people per farm. Within three years, the region developed. Finance Ng'andu Magande said in 2005: "In Choma the money has broken out. " Nevertheless, the poverty in the rest of the district is still so widespread that forest is cleared to produce charcoal, which is why increasingly larger areas erode in this dry region.

Tourism

In Choma Choma, there is the hotel, the Kozo Lodge and Chalets Mambushi for tourists. The area of Lake Kariba back is used for hunting safaris. There is a museum and Craft Centre with crafts and gallery exhibitions and a small library. Basketry is widespread.

Infrastructure

The main road between Lusaka and Livingstone, unlike the other streets around Choma, asphalted. Choma is on the railroad line of the Zambia Railways Livingstone Lusaka, which makes the place to the regional market. There is an untapped Airfield, schools and the small Choma General Hospital.
