Choregos

The Choregos (Greek χορηγός ) was in ancient Greek literary texts, according to the literal translation of the chorus leader. However, the more and more important was the Choregos called " Culture Sponsor" in Athens.

A Choregos put together a choir consisting of citizens theater and had to pay for its maintenance during the months of the sample. He cared for the smooth running of the samples which led either the poet or paid by him Chorodidaskalos. Probably the most important item was the equipment of the choir with costumes. Were able to come even fringe benefits ( called Parachoregema ) as extras, a chancel, more equipment and the final service after the performance.

As a reward for the effort of Choregos stood during the performance at the center. He got the tripod for the victorious dithyramb and was named in the official victory inscriptions ( Didaskalien ) before the poet. The Office of Choregos was called choregia.

In the Roman theater the office Choragus was called, however, his responsibilities included only a small part of the Greek Office, as the Choragus was only responsible for the costumes.
