Chorioretinitis

Chorioretinitis is the medical term for inflammation of the retina ( retinitis → ) and the choroid rarely the term as used retinochoroiditis is reversed. The disease can develop in different ways, ranging from virtually no impairment of the patient until total blindness by retinal degeneration.

The disease is often caused by systemic infections, such as toxoplasmosis or tuberculosis and syphilis. Less common are bacterial metastatic inflammation. In AIDS patients, immunosuppressed or a chorioretinitis is often caused by the Human Cytomegalovirus.
