Chorlton -on- Medlock is now a suburb of Manchester in England. The district may not be with Chorlton- cum- Hardy, another district of Manchester, confused.

History

In the Middle Ages Chorlton -on- Medlock Chorlton Row and was known as a place in the former parish of Manchester. Towards the end of the 18th century started the site be developed into a suburb of Manchester, in the extreme north of the area, a number of cotton mills settled.

Chorlton -on- Medlock 1838 was a district of Manchester, even if just to the south of the area was still heavily reliant on agriculture. 1873, the Owens College was opened, which is part of the University of Manchester today and the foundation stone for the University campus put that characterizes the area today.
