Chou Wen-chung

Chou Wen-chung ( born June 29, 1923 in Chefoo ) is an American composer of Chinese origin.

Chou came in 1946 in the United States. He studied at Yale University architecture and composition at the New England Conservatory of Music. In 1949 he met Edgard Varèse, whose friend and pupil he became. In 1982 he became a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1984 professor of composition at Columbia University. He founded the Fritz Reiner Center for Contemporary Music, which he headed from 1984 to 1991, and 1978, the Center for US-China Arts Exchange, the cultural exchange between the United States dedicated to. He was also a member of international music organizations such as the International Society for Contemporary Music and the Asian Composers League.
