Choummaly Sayasone

Choummaly Sayasone (Lao: ຈູມ ມະ ລີ ໄຊ ຍະ ສອນ; born March 6, 1936 in Attapeu ) since 2006 has been General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and president of Laos 6.

Life and work

Choummaly was born the son of a farmer and even went as a teenager to the Pathet Lao associations, where he temporarily served under a Vietnamese command. He served from simple soldier to Maj. Gen. high. In 1975 its name was first officially announced in the position of deputy chief of staff.

Choummaly moved in 1982 to the Deputy Secretary of Defense and Minister of Defense in 1991 (where he followed in turn Khamtay Siphandone ). This was accompanied by his rise in the party, since about 1982 he has been a member of the Central Committee. In 1991 he rose to the Politburo. The next step in his career was his promotion to Deputy Prime Minister ( while retaining his post as defense minister ) in February 1998. From active service, he retired in 2001 and was elected Vice President.

In March 2006, the Central Committee of him then certain general secretary of the party. On 8 March 2006, the newly elected National Assembly appointed him as president, with the former Prime Minister Boungnang Vorachith as his deputy.
