Chowan County, North Carolina

Chowan County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Edenton, which was named after Charles Eden, an early governor.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern North Carolina, is located in the north about 40 miles from Virginia and has an area of 604 square kilometers, of which 157 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Perquimans County, Bertie County, Hertford County and Gates County.

History

Chowan County was formed in 1672. It was named after the eponymous Indian tribe.
