Chřibský hrádek

Hewn out space on the castle rock

Chřibský hrádek, also Karlstejn ( German: Lower Karlstejn, Desolate castle ) are called in the Czech Republic, the remains of a rock castle at Chřibská ( Kreibitz ) in the Bohemian Switzerland.

Location

Castle Chřibský hrádek is on a boulder in the valley of the creek Doubický ( Daubitzbach ) close to the individual Heger house Hájovna Saula (also U Sloupu ), which now houses an information center of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park. To the north lies the small community Doubice ( Daubitz ), east of the city Chřibská.

History

The story of the little castle is not known because of the lack of written sources, including the castle originally valid name is not known until today. She was probably as a watch tower at the Old Prague street - created by the Michalowitzern - a medieval trade route between Saxony and Bohemia. Using recent archaeological findings, the plant was abandoned in the first half of the 14th century. The area was under the Michalowitzern in 1406 the Berken of Duba and from 1428 the wait salvors, under which it was affected 1440-1445 difficulty of fighting the Upper Lusatian Six Towns League. If the castle was therefore not abandoned in the 14th century, it survived not sure these events.

Castle

Overall, the site of the Castle occupies an area of about 50 x 50 meters. On the boulder up the wooden main building of the castle should once have been located. Today, on the boulder still a full- hewn cellar bar and some requirements to be found. At the foot of the rock, the remains of a small bailey are still clearly visible to the two trenches in the neck area.

Way to the castle

A good starting point is the information center of the National park Bohemian Switzerland in the Hájovna Saula. From there, the castle can be reached in about five minutes on ausgeschildertem way. The climb to the castle rock is possible on a narrow path.
