Chris Lawrence (racing driver)

Christopher " Chris " Lawrence ( born July 27, 1933, Ealing, † August 13 2011 in Herefordshire ) was a British racing driver and racing car constructor.

Career

Chris Lawrence was in the late 1950s with MGs and Morgans at club racing in the UK at the start. Lawrence was the owner of an engine tuning company in London and was involved as a technician in 1963 and 1964 in the Deep Sanderson sports car project.

As in 1966 in Formula 1, the 3- liter formula was introduced, Lawrence participated in several Formula 1 race with a Cooper T73. By Cooper, who had a Ferrari engine in the rear, he also denied two world championship races. At Brands Hatch Grand Prix of Great Britain, he took the checkered flag in eleventh place. At the Grand Prix of Germany at the Nürburgring he fell out after a fracture of the front suspension.

In 1967 he went only sporadically sports car racing and began to work as a vehicle designer at Morgan, where he was responsible for the construction of the sports car version of the Morgan 4/4. During the same period he was also responsible for the development of the Monica 560.
