Chris Thompson (English musician)
Chris Hamlet Thompson ( born March 9, 1947 in Ashford (Kent ), UK ) is a British rock singer, guitarist and composer. He was particularly known as the "voice " of the Manfred Mann's Earth Band, with whom he had several top ten hits in the 1970s and 1980s.
Career
Born in England and raised in New Zealand, Thompson was a professional singer in 1971. In 1975, he was lead singer of Manfred Mann's Earth Band and had songs like Blinded by the Light, Davy 's on the Road Again and Mighty Quinn worldwide top - ten finishes. From 1979 to 1982 he was with the band Night, after which he returned to Earth Band back in 1983 and released his first solo album. Engagements with Mike Oldfield ( Runaway Son, See the Light ), The Alan Parsons Project ( Turn it Up, Back Against the Wall ), Sarah Brightman, Leslie Mandoki and various film and advertising productions followed. As a songwriter, Thompson had successes, inter alia, with the song You're the Voice, with John Farnham in 1986 landed a top hit. By The Challenge ( Face It ) Chris Thompson was able to celebrate in 1989 its own Hit: Composed for the Wimbledon Championships song was three weeks in the German Top 10 and climbed to number 5 had produced the recording Harold Faltermeyer. The follow-up single Take Me To Heaven flopped at No. 74
In 1978, he participated as a singer in the role of the voice of humanity (Voice of Humanity ) to Jeff Wayne's version of HG Wells ' novel War of the Worlds. He sang the conclusion of the first act: Thunderchild.
In April 2006, War of the Worlds was performed live on the stages of England, composed by Chris Thompson. More shows have been listed in this year in Australia and the UK.
