Christel Steffin

Christel Steffin ( born April 4, 1940 in Hohennauen ), after marriage Christel Schulz is a German swimmer who is successful for the all-German team GDR and as age class athlete for Germany.

Christel Steffin began her career under coach Karl Wolf at the BSG unit Rathenow, since the turn Christel Schulz starts at the age class range for the SG unit Rathenow.

1955 Christel Steffin won the 100m freestyle the first of five East German league titles on this route, two additional titles they swam about 400 meters. About 100 meters freestyle during her career she put on seven GDR Records. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 she went to over 100 meters and was eliminated in the run- off. In 1958 she took at the European Swimming Championships in the 100 meters and reached the sixth place with the medley relay to fourth place. With the elimination of all-German team at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, she managed to qualify for the freestyle relay. In the final of the Olympic Games, the German team took third place behind the U.S. swimmers and the Australians. With Christel Steffin, Heidi Pechstein and Gisela White were three swimmers from the GDR to the German squadron, final swimmer was Ursel Brunner from the Federal Republic.

Christel Schulz is a trained electrical Installateurin, graduated with a teaching degree and worked as a teacher levels. In 2005 she won five titles at the Masters European Championships, in 2008 she received five titles at the Masters World Championships in Perth.
