Christian Auer

Christian Auer ( born May 4, 1966 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian skeleton bob.

Christian Auer is one of the most successful Skeleton athletes ever. At the World Championships he won in 1989 in St. Moritz behind Alain Wicki silver. 1991 in Igls, he was world champion, a year later in Calgary by third parties. In 1995, added another silver medal he won in Lillehammer behind Jürg Wenger. In 1996 he won bronze with a final world championship medal in Calgary. Between 1989 and 2001, Auer appeared at nine World Championships. In his last start in Calgary, he took again a good fifth place. Apart from a 19th place in 1997 in Lake Placid, he could always place in the top seven. In 1987, he won the European Championships in Sarajevo silver and was only defeated by Andy Schmid.

Especially successful was Auer in skeleton World Cup, he dominated and apart from 1993, where he was second only behind Franz Plangger, won five times between 1990 and 1995. He also identified nine individual races to decide for itself the first in 1990 in Cervinia, the last in 1996 in Lake Placid. The final conclusion of Auer's career were the 2002 Winter Olympics, where Skeleton for the first time since 1948 was in the Olympic program. For a placement at the front was not enough Auer's performance, he was twelfth. After his career, he became the Austrian national team.
