Christian August Crusius

Christian August Crusius ( born June 10, 1715 in Leuna, † October 18, 1775 in Leipzig ) was a German philosopher and Protestant theologian.

Life

He was born the son of a clergyman, and studied at the University of Leipzig philosophy and theology, where he was associate professor of philosophy in 1744 and 1750 ordinary professor of theology. Besides Johann Franz Buddeus he became one of the fiercest opponents of the philosophy of Gottfried Leibniz and Christian Wolff. Against this he championed a unit of positive revelation and reason and rejected the ontological argument. Appreciation he was late by Ernst Wilhelm Hengstenberg and Franz Delitzsch. In 1767 he took over as the first Leipzig professor the tutorials office of President in the founded in 1716 Wendish Preachers Society in Leipzig (later Landsmannschaft Sorabia ) and organized new: In addition to the Wendish sermons Members should also hold lectures on other Wendish topics and about exchange.
