Christian Baudelot

Christian Baudelot ( born December 9, 1938 in Paris ) is a French sociologist.

The now retired Baudelot (as of 2010 ) is a professor at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris. In the first phase of his academic career he was close to the philosophy of Louis Althusser. Later, he oriented himself with his studies on the sociology of education to Pierre Bourdieu.

After his studies and doctorate (1982 ) was Baudelot assistant at Yale University and then did research at Raymond Aron and Bourdieu at the Centre de Sociologie Européenne. After that, he did his military service. This was followed by teaching at various French universities. In 1984 he became professor of sociology at the University of Nantes, in 1990 he moved to the Ecole Normale Superieure.
