Christian Bérard

Christian Bérard, also known as Bébé ( born August 20, 1902 in Paris, † February 13, 1949 ) was a French artist, illustrator and designer.

Life

Christian Bérard attended the Lycée Janson de Sailly, and studied the beginning of the 1920s at the Académie Ranson, Édouard Vuillard and Maurice Denis below. In the Galerie Pierre Bérard introduced first time in 1925 from his pictures.

Early in his career he had to design an interest theater decorations and costumes - in the 1930s and 1940s played Bérard and Jean -Michel Frank ( 1895-1941 ) an important role in the development of French theater designs. He also worked as a fashion designer Coco Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli and Nina Ricci. Berard's most prestigious achievement was probably his designs for Jean Cocteau's film La Belle et la Bête ( 1946).

Together with his partner Boris Jewgenjewitsch Kochno (1904-1990), the Russian poet, dancer and librettist, Bérard was after the Second World War, one of the founders of the Ballet des Champs- Élysées. Christian Bérard died unexpectedly on the stage of the Théâtre de Marigny.
