Christian County (Kentucky)

Christian County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hopkinsville, which was named after General Samuel Hopkins.

Geography

The County is located in southwestern Kentucky, bounded on the south by the State of Tennessee and has an area of 1875 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. It borders in Kentucky clockwise to the following counties: Hopkins County, Muhlenberg County, Todd County, Trigg County and Caldwell County.

History

Christian County was formed on December 13, 1796 from parts of Logan County. It was named for Colonel William Christian, who was killed during a skirmish with Indians.

According to the census of 2000, there were 72 265 people in Christian County.
