Christian Friedrich Neue

New Christian Friedrich ( born December 19, 1799 according to another October 26, 1798 in Spandau in Berlin, † July 14, 1886 in Stuttgart ) was a German philologist Classic.

Life

New Christian Friedrich, the son of a furrier, he studied philology at the University of Berlin, where influenced him especially August Boeckh. From 1820, he worked as a teacher at the National School Pforta. With the University of Berlin he continued to maintain contact. So he reached in 1822 the promotion and published several philological works in Berlin publishers.

1831 New received a professorship at the University of Dorpat to the chair of " literary history, philology and pedagogy altclassische ". In Dorpat had New for 30 years, from 1831 to 1837 as a member of the school board. He served several times as Dean of the Faculty of Arts ( 1833, 1835, 1839, 1842-1845, 1847-1851 ) and from 1836 to 1839 and from 1843 to 1851 as rector of the university. In addition, he was from 1843 to 1851 member of the censorship committee.

New 1861 took at the age of 72 years his farewell and moved to Stuttgart, where he spent his retirement. In retirement, he published a two -volume treatise on the morphology of the Latin language, which was the result of his 50 - year teaching career. The work was revised by Carl Wagener (1842-1920) and is therefore known as the " morphology of New - Wagener ".
