Christian Hermann Weisse

White was a son of Christian Ernst White (1766-1832) and his wife Christiana Elizabeth White (1778-1826), a daughter of the Leipzig theologians Christian Samuel White (1738-1805) and sister of mineralogists Christian Samuel Weiss (1780-1856).

He taught from 1828 to 1837 and from 1841 to 1866 at the University of Leipzig philosophy, since 1845 as a full professor. Against David Friedrich Strauss tried to reconstruct the historical Jesus whites. In his Evangelical History ( 1838), he presents an opposite Schleiermacher modified two- source theory. From the Hebrew speech collection Schleiermacher was saying the source of Matthew's Gospel with him; Schleiermacher 's Ur -Markus, he replaced them with the Gospel of Mark, which he understood as the first, based on authentic memory representation of the life of Jesus and Peter companion John Mark attributed. White heard so along with Karl Lachmann, Gottlob Christian Storr and Christian Gottlob Wilke of the founders of Mark's priority. However, he changed into conflict with Heinrich Ewald 1856 his theory and suggested that there was still one great- Mark's Gospel before the canonical Mark but, the Matthean and Lukan special material had cal.
