Christian Initiative Romero

The Christian Initiative Romero eV (CIR ), founded in 1981 is a registered charity based in Münster. The initiative for labor and human rights in countries of Central America a. Objectives

Activity

The association supports approximately 90 projects in Central America every year. Main topics of these projects are self-determination of women, respect for human rights and the cultural and social rights of indigenous people, decent working conditions, respect and organization of working children, ecology and political empowerment of civil society.

In addition to the campaigns and project work, the association provides immediate assistance in emergencies such as after natural disasters, organized Urgent Actions on human and labor rights violations, working selectively with other networks and organizations, and plans tours with guests from Central America.

The association under researched in the areas of the clothing industry and the human and children's rights in Central America. There are many processed results of such research available, including didactically elaborated work folders. In addition, the CIR 10 000 developmentally interested people informed with a free quarterly bulletin on current political and social issues in the priority countries for their work.

The association is financed by membership fees and donations, donations from churches and private foundations, government grants, for example, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ ) and the EU and by means of the Romero Foundation.
