Christian Julius Wilhelm Schiede

Christian Julius Wilhelm differences ( born February 3, 1798 in Kassel, † December 1836 in Mexico ) was a German physician, botanist and writer. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " differences ".

Life and work

Differences studied at the universities of Berlin and Göttingen natural sciences and medicine. In Göttingen, he received his doctorate in 1825. He then practiced in Kassel.

Differences first traveled in 1826 with the Berlin gardener Ferdinand Deppe to Mexico. The two traveled repeatedly to Mexico in 1828. After they stayed from July 1828 in Jalapa, they explored the state of Veracruz. Differences led many Mexican plant species to Europe. Differences and Deppe also dealt in natural assemblages, which they sold to European museums in Berlin and Vienna, among other things, to collectors and dealers. In price lists, the objects were described. Since this joint venture is not expected, they found in the late summer of 1830, a business operations.

While Mexico Deppe left again, differences resolved to remain, and practiced as a physician in Mexico, where he died in 1836.

Among other things, Diederich Franz Leonhard described by Schlechtendal plants from the collections of differences and dorks from Mexico 1824-1829.
