Christian Kalkbrenner

Christian Kalkbrenner ( born September 22, 1755 in Munden, now called Hann Munden, . † August 10, 1806 in Paris) was a German choral conductor and composer.

Life

Kalkbrenner began his career as a chorister at the French Opera in Kassel. He composed a Mass in 1777, by which he acquired the membership of the Philharmonic Society in Bologna, and was in 1788 Kapellmeister of the Queen of Prussia at Berlin, in 1790 Prince Henry of Prussia in Rheinberg.

After the death of the prince, he went in 1802 to Paris, where he was hired as choir director at the Grand Opera and died on 10 August 1806.

He left behind an unfinished except "Histoire de la musique " a large number of compositions, consisting in operas ( including " Oenone ", " Olympia" ), piano sonatas and songs.

The German - French composer and pianist Friedrich Kalkbrenner was his son.
