Christian Kauter
Christian cautery ( born May 6, 1947 in Bern ) is a Swiss manager and former official of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs ( DFA) and former Secretary General of the Free Democratic Party ( FDP). In the 1970s and early 1980s, he won several Olympic and World Championship medals as a fencer.
After cautery had won in 1967 at the Junior World Championship silver, he was allowed to participate in the Summer Olympics in 1968 in Mexico City. At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich that he introduced the Swiss team and won along with Guy Evéquoz, Peter Lötscher and Daniel Giger silver. Four years later in Montreal added a bronze medal ( with François Suchan Niemiecki, Michel Poffet, Daniel Giger and Jean -Blaise Evéquoz ). In these games cautery was allowed to carry the Swiss flag at the opening ceremony in the stadium.
At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow cautery did not participate because the Swiss Fencing Federation had decided to follow the American boycott. In Switzerland, the decision was left to the individual sports federations; In addition to the fencers refused only the horsemen and bowmen participation. At World Fencing Championships cautery won a total of five team medals ( silver in 1977, 1981, 1982 and bronze in 1970, 1972). In addition, it was six times Swiss champion with the foil.
Cautery studied political science at the University of Bern and the University of Geneva. From 1974 he worked for the Association of Swiss printing industry. In 1977, he received an offer to work for the Federal Office for Foreign Economic Affairs. He also served as First Secretary of the Embassy in Washington and Chief of Staff of the Swiss delegation to the GATT Uruguay Round. From 1987 he worked as General Secretary of the FDP for ten years. He ran unsuccessfully in 1995 for a seat in the National Council.
1997 made him the General Poster Company ( APG ), a company for outdoor advertising, as Deputy Secretary-General of. A little later cautery took over the management of the company and built it from the holding company APG AG SGA. Since 1976, he is married to Claudia Giger, the sister of his former team- mate Daniel Giger. Two of his three children, sons Michael and Fabian cautery cautery, are also epee fencer.
