Christian Lindberg

Christian Lindberg (* February 15, 1958 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a Swedish trombonist and conductor.

Life

Christian Lindberg grew up in an artistic home since his parents were both painters. His love for music was influenced decisively by the film Help the Beatles at the age of six years. His desire to follow in the footsteps Ringo Starr, was spoiled for him at a music school because he had to learn to play first military drum.

At the age of 17 he began playing trombone, influenced by Jack Teagarden. Two years later he was a member of the Royal Stockholm Opera Orchestra. At twenty, he left the orchestra to study in Stockholm, London and Los Angeles.

Five years later he began a career as a professional trombonist and occasional composer and conductor. The breakthrough came when he was nominated by the BBC in 1991 to work as soloist of the year - in addition to Yo- Yo Ma and Gidon Kremer. He himself says that it was a special honor for him to have been recognized as a then relatively unknown in addition to already established soloists such quality.

In December 1999 he was a soloist in the premiere of the concerto trombone solo by Luciano Berio with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, further performances in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, England, Australia and Vienna followed with renowned orchestras. In total, he has recorded to date more than 60 CDs. His interpretations are usually characterized by strict faithfulness, the possibility of which he uses extremely virtuosic. His repertoire consists of more than 100 pieces that span all eras of modern music - classical trombone concerts, rarities and unknown pieces are just as important as his own compositions and works written especially for him, as the Motorbike Concerto by Jan Sandström. His Helicon Wasp was premiered in 2003 at the International Trombone Festival in Helsinki. Lindberg offers technical skill and sporty appearance, he also runs marathons.

He has been chief conductor of the Nordic Chamber Orchestra and the Swedish Wind Ensemble.

Together with the company C. G. Conn he developed from 1989 onwards its own construction for the Quart valve and a separate mouthpiece series.
