Christian Ludwig Mayer

Christian Ludwig Mayer ( born March 21, 1974 in Kempten ( Allgäu) ) is a German pianist and composer in the fields of Third Stream, Jazz, Swing, New Music, theater and music crossover. In the latter cases, it is also often work as accordionist and multi-instrumentalist. Since 2008 he performs under the name Ludwig floodplain.

Biography

In his youth, Mayer brought the piano with a largely self-taught. After finishing high school in Kempten, he was already able to finance his musical studies with performances themselves. During his music studies at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and the Music Academy Augsburg- Nuremberg, he studied alongside his main professional jazz piano with Leonid Chizhik among other classical piano, harpsichord with Michael Eberth and jazz composition with Thomas Zoller. He also expanded his instrument self-teaching. As part of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation, he took the same time to concerts in detention centers in part. The study, he finished with high school diplomas artistic maturity and musical education. He was one of the winners of Gasteig Promotion Prize 2002 with the program "Jazz Suites " consisting of original compositions for jazz piano trio. To education in the field of contemporary music, he took composition lessons with Laurence Traiger, Wilfried Hiller and Anton Prestele. Since then he has worked as a freelance composer and pianist both at home and abroad.

CLMayer performs internationally, as in Italy, France, Scotland, Ireland, Austria and Switzerland. Here he is usually heard as a soloist or in smaller formations. He spans the entire stylistic spectrum of jazz. Another focus is the study of ancient music and free improvisation.

Mayer worked and worked, among other artists such as Gunther Klatt, Yorgui Loeffler, Susanne Brantl, Marcus Woelfle, Bibi Johns, Georgette Dee, Meret Becker, Dirk Bach, Walter Plathe or Noël Akchoté. He composed, among others for Ottfried Fischer and the homeless ( with the Munich jazz trumpeter Claus Reichstaller ), the Art Ensemble of Passau ( with Yogo Pausch, Leopold Gmelch and Peter Tuscher ) as well as for their own formations such as the floodplain trio or the floodplain Consort. From 2010 to 2012, he worked under the pseudonym Louis floodplain with director Dieter Wedel, as musical director of the Nibelungen Festival Worms from 2010 to 2012 and the Zwinger Dresden Festival 2011.
