Christian Poncelet

Christian Poncelet ( born March 24, 1928 in Blaise, Ardennes ) from 1998 to 2008, President of the French Senate. The UMP politicians had previously a long political career at the regional level and was Secretary of State from 1972 to 1974 under Pierre Messmer, between 1974 and 1976 under Jacques Chirac and 1976/1977 under Raymond Barre.

Poncelet attended the national school of the French Post and began to work there in 1950. At the same time he made his first experiences as a union secretary in the Christian CFTC

In 1962 he moved to the UNR - UDT in the council of Remiremont, where he remained until 1973. From 1972 to 1977 he worked in various positions as secretary of state in Conservative governments. Since 1963 he has represented the canton of Remiremont the General Council of the department of Vosges, since 1976 President of the General Council. In 1977 he moved to the Regional Council of Lorraine as well as engage in the French Senate. From 1983 to 2001 he was mayor of Remiremont.
