Christian Saehrendt

Christian Saehrendt ( born January 29, 1968 in Kassel, Germany ) is a German art historian and publicist.

Life

Saehrendt studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg, then Recent History and Art History at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Ruprecht -Karls- University of Heidelberg. He was there his doctorate with a thesis on the Expressionist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, 2002. Since 1989 he works together with Steen T. Kittl, between 1994 and 2000 both led the producers and artists gallery group New decency in Berlin. Since 2007 Saehrendt Kittl and co-authored six popular science monographs. Christian Saehrendt written popular science books in addition to art scientific studies and technical papers in journals, catalogs and anthologies. He is a columnist at the Swiss monthly and writes for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung.

His themes and work focuses on the cultural history of the 20th century, sociology of art, political art and popular science art education in the field of contemporary art. Independently and in cooperation with universities and research institutions, he worked on projects about foreign cultural policy, political monuments ( sculpture and architecture ) of the artist group "Die Brücke".
