The CGB grew out of " workers' associations " in the early 19th century, from which 1899, in Mainz on the first Christian Trade Union Congress of the German Association of Christian Trade Unions. In November 1918 (initially together with the liberal unions ) of the German Democratic Trade Union Confederation ( DDGB ) as an umbrella organization which changed its name in 1919 under the name of DGB ( German Trade Union Confederation). 1933, the union and its member unions was broken up violently, but new trade unions and federations were founded after 1945 soon. Thus, the DGB and the DBB emerged. A Christian umbrella organization did not exist initially. The now re-established Christian workers unions to "Christian trade union movement in Germany" united until the year 1955 ( CGD). From this movement of Christian Trade Union Federation of Germany ( CGB) was born on June 27, 1959 in Mainz, Germany.

Tariff Group for temporary employment

In the fall of 2002, six CGB member unions have joined together Christian unions for temporary staffing and service agencies to CGZP collective community. After litigation are now only three unions in the CGZP together (CGM, DHV, CST ). The collective ability of CGZP is, as well as their competence for the conclusion of collective agreements for the temporary employment sector, meanwhile, clarified: According to the judgment of the Federal Labor Court of 14 December 2010, the CGZP is not collectively capable ( see article Tarifgemeinschaft Christian Trade Unions for temporary staffing and service agencies ).

Already on 1 April 2009, the Labour Court Berlin had decided to request the State of Berlin and the DGB trade union Verdi that the CGZP was not able collective bargaining because it lacked her at the necessary social cardinality.

In 2003, she completed three employers' organizations nationwide applicable collective agreements. The social partners, the Federal Association of German service companies ( AAD), the community of interest Nordbayerischer temporary employment agency ( INZ ) and the SME association -time work ( MVZ ) organize primarily midsize companies in the temporary employment industry.

After the CGB also for its multi-unit follow-up " collective agreements " saw no prospect of inventory at a judicial review, CGB and BAP have also terminated, this alternate construct for 31.3.2013.

Criticism

The unions of the Christian Trade Union Federation undercut again by their own collective agreements, some of which are criticized as " complacency collective agreements ", the previous wage structures of the existing collective bargaining agreements.

The collective bargaining agreement at the Blood Transfusion Service West of the German Red Cross with the union German trade and industry employees Association ( DHV) was strongly criticized. In addition, the SPD and the DGB criticized the role of the Christian Trade Unions in collective bargaining with the employment agencies. He was accused of letting himself be exploited for low wages.

The membership of 300,000 members of the CGB, of more than 100,000 members of the CGM and about 80,000 members of the DHV will be strongly challenged by IG Metall. In a report of the ARD magazine Report Mainz 10 December 2007 was researched, for example, a Wuppertal recruitment agency as an employer at the onset of employment new members for the CGZP advertised, which is part of the CGB. The union membership here was part of the employment contract and the trade union contribution was deducted directly from wages. A collective bond with the company in question no longer exists since December 2007.
