Christian Wilhelm von Faber du Faur

Christian Wilhelm von Faber du Faur ( born August 18, 1780 in Stuttgart, † February 6, 1857 in Stuttgart ) was a lawyer Württemberg, general and military painter.

Life

The son of a colonel of the Württemberg cavalry studied law and entered 1802 as a lawyer in the government service. Outside of the profession, he worked as an artist: in addition to histories and landscapes he created numerous cartoons. In 1809 he voluntarily resigned in the Württemberg Army and became a second lieutenant in the light infantry. In terms of educational attainment and talent for drawing, he was transferred the following year to the artillery.

In 1812 he took part in the Russian campaign of Napoleon as a first lieutenant in the French III. Army Corps in part, a part of the Confederation of the Rhine Württemberg quota was assumed. He made it almost daily sketches, which he published in 1831 along with Major Kausler. The work With Napoleon in Russia includes a plurality of colored drawings, which represent the entire campaign and the retreat and thus retain the character of an eyewitness report. He was a member of the French Legion of Honor and was one of only 1,000 Württemberg soldiers who survived the campaign healthy.

In 1829 he was promoted to major, lieutenant-colonel in 1836, colonel in 1840 and 1849 to Major General. Since 1839 he was a military representative at the Württemberg Military Commission of the German Bundestag in Frankfurt. 1844 Christian Wilhelm von Faber du Faur was awarded with the Order of the Württemberg Crown Kommenturkreuz, which was connected with the personal titles of nobility.

In 1851 he went into retirement. His tomb is located in the Frankfurt 's main cemetery.

Faber du Faur was married and the father of Otto von Faber du Faur.
