Christiane Taubira

Christiane Taubira ( born February 2, 1952 in Cayenne ) is a French politician of the party Walwari or the Parti radical de gauche. Since May 16, 2012 she is Minister of Justice in the Cabinets Ayrault I, II and Ayrault Valls.

Life

Christine Taubira was born as the daughter of a nurse aide who raised her and her four siblings alone. She earned degrees in economics, sociology, African American Ethnology and food science at universities in Paris and Bordeaux. Subsequently, she worked as a professor of economics.

Political career

1993 Taubira was the first time for French Guiana elected to the French National Assembly in 1997, 2002 and 2007 respectively re-elected. She was each candidate founded by her socialist-oriented party Walwari. 1994 to 1999 she also belonged to the European Parliament for the Parti radical de gauche.

1993 agreed Taubira in the confidence vote on the government Édouard Balladur Yes. In the National Assembly she served on from 1993 to 1997 the fraction République et liberté, the deputy smaller parties of the left united as the right.
