Christiane Ziegler

Christiane Ziegler ( May 3, 1942 in L' Isle- sur -la -Sorgue ) is a French Egyptologist.

Ziegler studied at the Institut d' études politiques de Paris and then at the Sorbonne in Paris, where she received her doctorate in Egyptology. After her studies she worked as a teacher and worked since 1972 at the Egyptian Department of the Louvre in Paris, whose leader, she was from 1993 until his retirement in May 2007. She also taught as a professor of Egyptian archeology at the École du Louvre. From 1991, she began her archaeological excavations at Saqqara. She wrote as an author of several books on the history of Egypt, the Egyptian handicrafts and Nubia.

In 2008 she became an officer of the Legion of Honour, in 2011 she was awarded the Ordre national du Mérite.
