Christiern Pedersen

Chris Pedersen ( * before 1480 in Elsinore, † January 16, 1554 in Helsinge ) is a Danish humanist and writer.

Life

Pedersen studied in Greifswald in 1496 and 1505 is as canon in Lund detectable. From 1516, he studied in Paris. From 1516, he lived mainly in Denmark at the court of Christian II. Along with the king, he fled to the Netherlands and joined in 1529 the Lutheran doctrine on. 1532 we find Pedersen as a printer in Malmö.

Pedersen was a major representative of the Renaissance in Denmark. He does much to ensure the Editio princeps of the Gesta of Saxo Grammaticus Danorum.

In his work, Pedersen laid the foundation for the development of the Danish written language, based on the Zeeland dialect. With his translation of the New Testament of 1529 (revised 1531), the basis of so-called Christian - III.- Bible of 1550 ( printed by Ludwig Dietz ) was, and with the pressure of translations of Luther's writings and his own works, he supported the Danish Reformation.
