Christina Lathan

Christina Lathan, born Brehmer ( born February 28, 1958 in Altdöbern ) is a former German track and field athlete and Olympic champion.

With the training she began in 1969 with the SG Dynamo Senftenberg. Gerhard Lootze was the one who gave her an important basis for their athletic development. In 1973, she was delegated to the SC Dynamo Berlin.

Career

She presented in 1976 equal to several German records over 400 m. On April 25, they improved the existing record in Sochi to 50.1 s, on 1 May in Split 50.39 s and on 9 May in Dresden at 49.77 s, which at the same time meant a world record (the first electronically elapsed time below 50 seconds).

In the XXI. Summer Olympics 1976 in Montreal, Canada, she won the 400-meter run, the silver medal ( 50.51 s ) behind the Polish Irena Szewińska ( gold ) and before the Germans Ellen Streidt ( Bronze) as well as the team gold medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay along with teammates Doris Maletzki, Brigitte Rohde and Ellen Streidt. In 1979 she won at the Indoor Championships in the GDR and 1980 she won second place in the 400m.

The XXII. 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow she reached the bronze medal over 400 m behind the German Marita Koch also ( gold) and the Czech Jarmila Kratochvílová. Also about 4 x 400 meters she won a medal again, this time the silver medal, along with their teammates Gabriele Löwe, Barbara Krug and Marita Koch.

Your trainer Inge Utecht praises her strong fighting spirit and will to win, but also their resistance. In their active time was Christina Lathan 1.68 m tall and weighed 64 kg. She studied economics and worked after the end of the GDR at the clerk's office in Grossraeschen.
