Christina Stead

Christina Ellen Stead ( born July 17, 1902 in Rockdale, New South Wales, † March 31, 1983 in Sydney) was an Australian writer.

Stead was trained as a teacher and lived from 1928 to 1974 in the U.S. and Europe.

Theme of her novels and short stories is the human quest for personal freedom and love. Especially famous was published in 1940, based on autobiographical material study of childhood The man who loved children. Time Magazine picked up the novel on the TIME 100 Best English -language Novels from 1923 to 2005.
