Christof May

Christof May (* 1970 in Radolfzell ) is a German clarinetist and saxophonist.

Life and work

May studied at the " Royal Conservatory " of The Hague from 1992 - 1998 jazz saxophone with John Ruocco and 1998 - 2002 classical clarinet at From Vos. He completed his studies with a Masters Degree.

From 1995 he worked as a sideman, inter alia, with poetic voice of Michel Portal, David Liebman, Jarmo Hoogendijk, C.Puntin, Samuel Rohrer, Florian Zenker, Amina Figarova, Eric Ineke and Trygve Seim.

With poetic voice, he can be heard on the albums released on the ECM label "April" and "Compass". He toured Europe, Africa and North America and was played by, inter alia, in Cape Town, Maputo, Montreal, Portland, Oslo, Paris, Rome and other European cities. As a guest musician with the Dutch Radio Orchestra Metropole Orkest, he worked with Kenny Werner and Bob Malach and took CDs, featuring Terry Bozzio and Others and Yuri Honing. In the classical field May worked inter alia as a guest musician at the Krefeld -Mönchengladbach Symphonierorchestern, Aachen and Duisburg.

His own project Maygus is inspired by the music of Miles Davis from the seventies. The name of the project refers to the 1974 released record " Dark Magus ". The debut CD was released in November 2007 as Vol 20 of the series "Jazz Thing Next Generation".
