Christoffer Schander

Carl Fredrik Christoffer Schander (* 1960 in Borås, Sweden, † February 21, 2012 in Bergen ) was a Swedish zoologist ( Malacology and marine invertebrates). He was one of the few who studied the systematics of Aplacophora.

Life and work

In 1997 he received his doctorate at the University of Gothenburg in Zoomorphology. His dissertation was entitled Taxonomy and Phylogeny of the Pyramidellidae ( Mollusca, Gastropoda, Heterobranchia ).

Schander was appointed professor of marine biodiversity at the University of Bergen. In 2011 he spent at Auburn University. After he returned to Bergen, he was appointed director of the University Museum. From Saddle DERs 90 publications, over 60 % deal with various molluscan groups such Aplacophora, Bivalvia, Polyplacophora and Scaphopoda.
