Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg

Christoffer Wilhelm Eckerberg ( born January 2, 1783 in blue jug at Blans, community Satrup in Sundewitt in the Duchy of Schleswig, † July 22, 1853 in Copenhagen ) was one of the most important Danish painters of the 19th century.

Eckerberg was initially educated at the master painters Jes Jessen in Aabenraa and Johann Jacob Jessen in Flensburg. In 1800 he was awarded the certificate of apprenticeship and was recorded in 1803 at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. 1811/12 he was a pupil of Jacques -Louis David in Paris. From 1818 he was professor at the Copenhagen Academy of Art, 1827-1829 whose director. During this time, among other things, Wilhelm Bendz and Carl Frederik Sørensen his students. Eckerberg a chief representative of the romantic -classical painting of the Golden Age of Denmark.

He is buried at the cemetery assistance in Copenhagen Nørrebro.
