Christoph Bach (musician)

Christoph Bach ( born April 19, 1613 Wechmar, † September 12, 1661 in Arnstadt ) was the second son of John Bach, brother of Johann and Heinrich Bach and grandfather of Johann Sebastian Bach.

After his musical training years - certainly at first with his father and possibly the Suhler Stadtpfeifer Hoffmann - he's back to 1633 in Wechmar as a town musician and " royal servant ".

1640 he dwells in the Saxon Prettin, where he married the daughter of a town piper.

Christoph Bach was 1642-1652 Council musician in Erfurt.

For the Bach family Erfurt was over a very long period of " primary collection point." Here in Erfurt they ruled over a century musical life in such a way that we could not all Council in 1793 called Musicians " Bache ," although no one of that name more long lived among them. In the church records of the Merchants' Church alone registered over 60 baptisms, weddings and funerals of Erfurt Bach family of musicians.

1654 he moved to Arnstadt as " count's court and town musician ." Possible compositions have not survived.
