Christoph Bergner

Georg Christoph Bergner (* November 24, 1948 in Zwickau ) is a German politician ( CDU). He was from 1993 to 1994 Minister President of Saxony -Anhalt. From 2005 to 2013 he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister of the Interior.

Life and career

At the age of 13, he moved in 1961 to Saalfeld / Saale and completed 1964-1967 vocational training for cattle breeders with the Abitur. After the military service followed in the National People 's Army (NVA ) and a degree in Agricultural Science at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, and from 1969 to 1971 at the Martin -Luther- University Halle- Wittenberg. He finished it in 1971 as a high school agricultural engineer. Then follows a research study and a Ph.D. in Agriculture. 1974-1990 he is a research associate at the Institute of Plant Biochemistry, Academy of Sciences of the GDR.

Christoph Bergner is Protestant, married and father of three children.

Party

Bergner was in 1971 a member of the CDU in the GDR. He was active from September 1989 to January 1990 in the New Forum in Hall and was from 1991 to 1993 state chairman of the CDU in Saxony- Anhalt. From 1995 to 1998 he was Deputy Chairman of the CDU.

Member of Parliament

From 1990 to 2002 Bergner was a member of the Landtag of Saxony- Anhalt. Here he was from 1991 to 1993 and from 1994 to 2001 Chairman of the CDU parliamentary group.

Since 2002 he is member of the German Bundestag. By 2013, drawn on a state list of Saxony- Anhalt in the Bundestag, he won his direct mandate in the Bundestag constituency hall in the general election of 2013.

Public offices

From 1986 to 1991 he has been parish council of the Evangelical congregation Peter Kröllwitz. 1990 he has been head of department in the district administrative authority Halle ( Saale).

After the Prime Minister Werner Münch had resigned because of a scandal over allegedly excessive salaries Minister in December 1993, Bergner was elected on 2 December 1993 as prime minister of Saxony- Anhalt. He received 60 votes, and thus six more than would have been required for an absolute majority in the vote in parliament. At the election, only 83 of the 106 deputies who participated. 19 deputies of SPD and two non-attached MEPs did not participate in the vote.

In the state elections in 1994 his coalition partner, the FDP failed at the five - percent hurdle and the CDU achieved with a loss of 4.6 percentage points, only 34.4 percent of the vote. His successor in office was on July 21, 1994, the SPD candidate Reinhard Hoeppner, the SPD had risen by 8.0 percentage points to 34.0 percent. Hoeppner formed a minority government tolerated by the PDS.

In the state elections in Saxony -Anhalt 1998 Bergner was another leading candidate, but the CDU had to cope with massive losses ( -12.4 percentage points), while the SPD with 35.9 percent of the votes strongest faction was first again.

On 23 November 2005 he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister of the Interior led by Chancellor Angela Merkel Federal Government. From February 2006 to January 2014 Bergner was the Federal Government Commissioner for Matters Related to Repatriates and National Minorities. From March 2011 to December 2013 took over Bergner, the function of the Federal Government Commissioner for the New Federal States.

Politics

Bergner noticed repeatedly because of his views on the full equality of registered civil partnership and marriage, and because of its general views regarding the homosexual minorities:

At a campaign event in Halle, Bergner said in summer 2009 that the higher suicide rate among homosexuals is due to disturbances in personality development. The LSVD asked Bergner, to distance themselves from this " scandalous " remarks. Hendrik Long threw Bergner ago not to have properly informed.
