Christoph Bode

Christoph Bode ( born May 13, 1952 in Siegen) is Anglist and American Studies and Chair of English Literature of the Modern at the Department of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Language and Literature at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich.

Schools and Universities

Christoph Bode is the second child of the private school director and university lecturer of English and American Dr. Adolf Bode and his wife Ute Bode, born kiss. In 1971, Bode put the Abitur at the Municipal School of Siegen, today Gymnasium am Löhrtor, now and then studied English, geography and philosophy / pedagogy at the University of Marburg and University College, Cardiff, UK. On the state exam 1976, 1978, PhD ( English, American, philosophy / pedagogy), as well as the civil service (1978 to 1980).

Professional career

Since 1977, Bode was employed at the English Seminar of the Christian -Albrechts- University of Kiel, where he completed his habilitation in 1986 and only when Academic Council and from mid-1989 worked as a university lecturer. From October 1989 to March 1990 he took over at the Justus -Liebig- University Giessen representation as Professor of English and American Literature and was appointed as adjunct professor in Kiel in 1991. In 1992, a professor at the Otto -Friedrich- University of Bamberg as a professor of English and American Literature. 1997 Bode was a Visiting Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2000 he received an appointment at the Ruprecht -Karls- University of Heidelberg and parallel to one another on a C4 professorship for "English Literature of Modernity" at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich with appointment as a full professor in April 2001.

Priorities in research and teaching

In the center of Bode's research focuses on the literature of the British and European Romanticism, poetry and narrative theory, as well as British travel literature. He is since 2001 the first President of the Society for English Romanticism and committed to the closer integration of the German Research anglistischen romance with the British and American ( British Association for Romantic Studies and North American Society for the Study of Romanticism ). Between 2000 and 2006, was Bode European Convener of the Wordsworth Summer Conference, Grasmere, England. He has, since 1997, 16 international conferences and workshops, all in the field of romance research, organized or co-organized.

Appraiser and consultant

Bode led verification activities by the German Research Foundation, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Volkswagen Foundation, Austrian Academy of Sciences, Study Foundation of the German people, the European Research Council, Cusanuswerk, European Romantic Review and the publisher Routledge, and he is a member of the University Council since 2007 Otto- Friedrich University of Bamberg and since 2004 member of the Audit Committee G of the main Bavarian Ministry of Culture.
