Christoph Christian Sturm

Christoph Christian Sturm ( born January 25, 1740 in Augsburg, † August 26, 1786 in Hamburg) was a Lutheran theologian and hymn writer.

Sturm, son of an imperial notary and Gerichtsactuars, is a descendant of Johann Sturm. He studied since 1760 at the University of Jena theology, he laid there in 1761 the examination for Master of Arts from. 1761 he moved to continue studying to Halle. In 1763 he became a teacher at the Pädagogium in Hall, 1765, he received the post of Conrector in Sorau in Lower Lusatia, in 1767 he was sent to minister to the Market Church in Halle, 1769 at the Holy Spirit Church in Magdeburg and on April 26, 1778 Senior Pastor St. Peter's Church in Hamburg, where he had to deal with Johann Melchior Goeze. Some of his song seals were set to music by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. The French translation of the meditations on the works of God in the kingdom of nature and providence was written by the Queen Christine of Prussia, and appeared in 1788 in Geneva in three volumes.

He was married since 20 April 1768 Johanna Christiane Brüning, who died in Brunswick on April 21, 1805 at the age of 64 years.

An image of Storm was drawn in 1783 by Stöttrup and is located in the third edition of his original conversations with God, even in the second collection of his clergy songs with tunes for singing in the Clavier by Bach there is a portrait.
