Christoph Demantius
Johann Christoph Demantius (* December 15 1567 in Reichenberg, Bohemia, † April 20, 1643 in Freiberg / Saxony ) was a German composer.
Life and work
Christoph Demantius studied in 1593 at the University of Wittenberg and was in the following, among others, a cantor in Zittau in Lusatia and (from 1604) Cantor at the Freiberg Cathedral School.
He composed in equal parts religious and secular works. Outstanding is his Johannes Passion for 6 Voices a cappella, which brings the musical form of the chorale passion to their last blooms.
