Christoph Genz

Christoph Genz ( born March 1, 1971 in Erfurt ) is a German classical singer (tenor ).

Life

Genz attended the Thomas School in Leipzig and was a member of the St. Thomas Boys'. He studied musicology at King's College, University of Cambridge. There he sang in the famous Choir of King 's College. He was singing student of Hans -Joachim Beyer at the Academy of Music in Leipzig and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.

In 1995 he won the first prize at the International Singing Competition in Grimsby, in 1996 the first prize at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig. In the 1997/1998 season, he was a member of the Basel Theatre. He also made ​​guest appearances at the Opéra de Nancy, the Théâtre de Champs- Elysées in Paris, the Opéra de Lausanne, the La Scala in Milan and the Semper Opera in Dresden.

Genz is soloist on recordings of numerous cantatas (including under John Eliot Gardiner ) and the St. John Passion ( under Güttler ) by Bach, Symphony Cantata Canticle of Mendelssohn Bartholdy ( under Helmuth Rilling ) and the opera Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss ( under Giuseppe Sinopoli ).
