Christoph Haberland

Christoph Haberland ( Latvian: .. .. Kristof Hāberlands; * 1 Januarjul / January 12 1750greg in Riga; † 7 Apriljul / April 19 1803greg ibid.) was one of the most famous architects who worked in Riga. Haberland was a representative of the bourgeois classicism.

Life

The German - Balt Haberland was born in a corner at the intersection Riharda Vagnera iela and Teatra iela, which now houses the Hotel Man- Tess. He studied in Berlin and Dresden. With the configuration of the cultivation of the library wing of the former Domkloster he gained authority among peers and popular with the clients. The Hall of Columns in the Museum of the History of Riga and seafaring ( 1778) is considered his masterpiece. Haberland was city architect of Riga from 1789 to 1797. As a distinctive mark Haberland applies the harmonious combination of classicism with elements of baroque.
