Christoph Leitl

Christoph Leitl (born 29 March 1949 in Linz, Upper Austria ) is an Austrian entrepreneur and politician (ÖVP ).

Life

Christoph Leitl studied economics and social sciences at the Johannes Kepler University Linz. In 1973, he became the Dr. rer. soc. oec. doctorate. Leitl is an honorary member of the K.Ö.St.V. Kürnberg to Vienna in the ACA and the K.Ö.St.V. Mercuria Eferding in MKV.

From 1977 to 1990 he was Managing Director of the company Bauhütte Leitl -Werke Ges.mbH in Eferding.

Policy

From 1990 to 2000 Leitl was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag and Provincial Minister of Economy of Upper Austria; 1995-2000 Deputy Governor. Since 1999 he has been chairman of the Austrian Federal Economic Association ( agency of the Austrian People's Party ).

In 2000 he resigned as his position as President of the Chamber of Commerce in Austria (successor of Leopold Maderthaner ). In this role, he was twice, 2004 and 2009, re-elected. From 2002 to 2005 he held also in two periods president of the European Chamber of Commerce Association EUROCHAMBERS (since 2006 Honorary President ).

Since 2004 he has been chairman of the Social Insurance Authority for Business. Since 2013 Leitl is an honorary member of the European Economic Association of the European People's Party SME Europe, having already served as president of the former SME Union from 2005 to 2009.

Kidnapping attempt

On the night of 13th to September 14, 1979 four men try at gunpoint and explosive belts the young CEO of the family-owned Bauhütte Leitl -Werke GmbH kidnap after he got out of the car in front of his villa on Pöstlingberg. The then 30 -year-old Leitl recognizes the situation and tries to escape, but gets a blow with a weapon on the head. Nevertheless, he was able to escape through a backward roll down a steep hill, where he remains lying six feet deep with a broken arm and screams for help. The then fleeing men, including the exiled Chilean leader to be arrested almost two years later. They wanted to set " capitalist world order" to Leitl an example against criticism of them.

Later it turned out that even the kidnapping of guiding children was planned. An accomplice had foiled this plan but because he wanted to kidnap a child. To thank Leitl visited the man in prison several times, and then gave him a job as an electrician in today's 150 -strong family.

Leitl recalls: " In those years, the atmosphere was emotionally very heated " and the attackers had " certainly the large RAF kidnappings in Germany before his eyes " had them in this endeavor.
