Christoph Straus

Christopher Strauss ( also: Christopher Straus, * 1575, † 1631) was an Austrian composer, conductor and organist of the late Renaissance and early Baroque.

Christopher Strauss in 1601 cantor at St. Michael in Vienna and chamber organist at Archduke Matthias. In 1617, he was appointed Kapellmeister. From 1619 to 1626 Strauss was Kapellmeister at St. Stephen's Cathedral.

His sacred compositions include polyphonic and polychoral fairs, including a requiem for choir. Although his music theory was quite old-fashioned for its time, but is reflected in his works that Strauss was also aware of the latest Italian plants.
